Hank Pelton will introduce the new Glens Falls indoor football team in a press conference Thursday morning at The Queensbury Hotel.
The team’s name, logo and colors will be announced at that time. Pelton said a head coach will be named at a later date, and a series of tryouts for a spring exhibition season would be held in January and February.
Pelton, the head of corporation for the Glens Falls team, said an exhibition schedule of four or more road games is planned this spring, before becoming a full member of the Can-Am Indoor Football League in the spring of 2018. Home games would be played at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
“We’re still finalizing the exhibition schedule,” said Pelton, who is also the president and CEO of the Glens Falls Greenjackets semipro team. “Us and the Connecticut Chiefs will be filling the schedule for other teams in the Can-Am league.”
Playing an exhibition schedule this spring would give the team a chance to become established and work its spring 2018 home dates around the Adirondack Thunder’s hockey schedule.
The Can-Am Indoor Football League is a brand-new professional league that plans to play a spring schedule, from late March through June. The teams are all based in the Northeast — teams in Vermont, Rochester, Buffalo and Niagara Falls, Ontario are already up and running for the 2017 season. It is a developmental league, below the level of the Arena Football League. There are several regional indoor football leagues in other parts of the country.
